The very first One-Day International (ODI) match that was played between Sri Lanka versus Indian cricket team on Friday 2nd August 2023 at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo ended in a tie.

In most dramatic way, both teams ended up scoring two hundred and thirty runs each. Batting first for Sri Lanka, they could only manage 230/8 after playing 50 overs. India batted second and after 13 balls left they were all out for also a score of 230. An Indian runner named Arshdeep Singh couldn’t even manage one run out of the one run that needed to be accomplished.

Only two hundred and thirty runs were scored by either team. This is regarded by some as a win for the home side though scrappy it may seem; since it prevented Menin Blue from clinching the match. Many fans yet have been asking why there was no Super Over during the first ODI like it was during the third Twenty20 International between These two countries played in Pallekele.

Why was there no super over after the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka finished in a tie?

According to cricket regulations, a super over is typically used as a tie-breaker after a draw. Matches in limited-overs cricket, particularly in the T20 format, are frequently determined by the super over. The classic ‘bowl-out’ format from the 2007 ICC World T20 between India and Pakistan was replaced by the Super Over format.

Only the T20I format is subject to the ICC super over-regulation. The ODIs don’t contain any such rule. Furthermore, just to be clear, in bilateral tournaments, the Super Over rule in ODIs does not apply. In terms of world cricket, there is not much on the line for the bilateral tournaments.

The Men in Blue will attempt to move past this draw and win the forthcoming second ODI, which is scheduled for August 4 (Sunday) at the same location in Colombo. The goal of the Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir combination would be to win this series and secure their maiden victory together.
