On Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to bat first in the 2d ODI of the 3-match series against India. India focused on dealing with the demanding situations challenged by the opposition team with the sluggish pitch and the effectiveness of Sri Lanka’s spinners, who were instrumental in the 1st match’s dramatic tie.
In that match, India required just one run from 15 balls to win, but Asalanka’s consecutive dismissals of Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh thwarted their chase, leaving them quick of the 231-run goal.
Sri Lanka put up a fighting total in the 2nd ODI match
The home team put up a decent score of 240 runs with the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs with the extraordinary efforts by Avishka Fernando scoring 40 off 62 balls, and later on by Dunith Wellalage scoring 39 off 35 balls. In response to that the Indian side started quite decently with the help of Rohit’s quickfire knock of 64 runs of 44 balls, and Axar’s knock of 44 runs coming off 44 balls.
Team India lost major wickets back to back keeping them on the back foot, KL Rahul departed on a duck by Jeffrey Vandersay who picked 6 wickets in his spell and stunned the visitors’ team.

When Team India began their second innings, captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill delivered an impressive performance during the power play. Much like the previous match, both players started aggressively from the outset. Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring 64 runs off 44 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes.
Shubman Gill partnered with Rohit for a stand of 97 runs off 81 balls. However, the dynamics shifted when Rohit was out. Following his departure at 97 runs, Gill and Dube were out with a total of 116 runs. The remaining wickets fell quickly, with Team India losing to Sri Lanka by 31 runs.
