[WATCH]- Sarath Kumar’s Match-Winning Six Off Shahrukh Khan Helps Dindigul Dragons Win The TNPL 2024 Final

Dindigul Dragons crushed Lyca Kovai Kings by six wickets in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 final played on Sunday, August 4 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to lift their first title in this T20 league. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Dindigul Dragons restricted Lyca Kovai Kings to 129 runs for 7 wickets. They thereafter managed to get the target in 18.2 overs.

For Dindigul Dragons, Sandeep Warrier took 2 wickets, Varun Chakravarthy had 2 as well as P Vignesh who also picked up 2 dismissals. The top scorer for Lyca Kovai Kings was Ram Arvindh (27 runs from 26 balls), while Atheeq Ur Rahman scored 25 off 17 deliveries and opener S Sujay made it a quick fire of 22 off just 12 balls.

Dindigul Dragons inched to victory. Vimal Khumar and Shivam Singh, the openers got out cheaply. However, Ravichandran Ashwin (52 off46) once again proved himself a leader by example, while Baba Indrajith (32 off 35) and C Sarath Kumar (27* off 15) played some important roles as well. In the 19th over, it was Sarath Kumar who hit the winning runs.

The second ball of the penultimate over was a tossed-up delivery from Lyca Kovai Kings skipper Shahrukh Khan. Sarath Kumar ran down his track and hit it over long-on with ease, which made Dindigul Dragons happy.

Dindigul Dragons secured the TNPL 2024 trophy, but their captain Ashwin received personal accolades. He was awarded Player of the Match due to his impressive all-round contribution. Ashwin scored a half-century hitting one four and a six. Before this, he had outstanding bowling figures of 0-13 from four overs.

To sum up, the 37-year-old made a total of 252 runs in nine innings at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 151.81. He took nine wickets with the ball at an average of 27.5 and an economy rate of 6.92.

Ashwin was most amazing when he batted towards the end stages of this tournament. Before scoring his half-century during the final match, he had scored 69 not out in 30 balls against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans during Qualifier 2 and also got another fifty from 35 balls in Eliminator against Chepauk Super Gillies.

With the ball, he destroyed Trichy Grand Cholas by taking 3-18 in Salem while getting rid off two batters each time they faced Siechem Madurai Panthers’ bowlers as well as those from the Nellai Royal Kings’ side.
