Early Life

Matthew Potts was born on 29th October, 1998 in Sunderland, England. He had a passion for cricket from the time he was a child. During his childhood he started playing at school and some club matches.

However, it soon became clear that he had another talent as well- bowling. His dad who is quite tall urged Matthew to concentrate on his bowling skills instead of batting lines up. At the age of 18 years Matthew played his first match for Durham despite being placed low down the batting order; though.

Then a month later, Potts helped Durham to beat Glamorgan by 58 runs after taking seven wickets including eleven all together in the match’s second inning alone.

International career

In May 2022, Potts was named in England’s Test squad for their home series against New Zealand, which was his first international call-up. Potts made his Test debut on June 2, 2022, playing for England against New Zealand.

Potts took four wickets for only thirteen runs during the first innings and three wickets for fifty-five runs in the second innings with total figures of seven for sixty-eight when England won that Test match.

In July 2022, Potts featured in England’s One Day International (ODI) side for the series hosted at home against South Africa. He played his ODI debut on July 19th,2022 representing England facing with South Africa team.
