The Indian Premier League (IPL)-style competition for retired cricket players is being considered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). A league for past players was requested by a group of former players who recently met with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Shah promised to take the suggestion into consideration and will present a fresh idea by the following year. Retired cricket players will get a platform to show off their abilities and compete against other professionals thanks to this proposed league.

Though the concept is currently in its early stages, it has the potential to gain momentum and materialize soon. If it is effective, it would be a novel idea that gives retiring cricket players a new way to continue playing their beloved game. In an effort to help retired players and promote the game, the BCCI’s readiness to investigate this idea is encouraging.

Former cricket players have been participating in unofficial leagues across the globe, frequently managed by private companies without significant board backing. The World Championship of Legends, which took place in England and included notable athletes like Shahid Afridi and Yuvraj Singh, has increased interest in these kinds of competitions.

Retired cricket stars in India may have suggested an IPL-themed competition, based to a report published in Dainik Jagran. With a franchise-based structure and a fancy auction for teams to bid on players, the league would resemble the Indian Premier League. The idea has garnered interest from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and board officials have responded positively to it.

When asked if the league could take place this year, the BCCI official responded by saying, “It is not possible this year. However, it could be considered for next year. The league will feature players who have retired from international cricket and are not participating in the IPL.”

Nearly all of the big stars will participate in the tournament if the BCCI can make it happen. That can turn out to be risky for the other retired player leagues. The format of this legends league would be modeled after the Indian Premier League.
