[WATCH]: “Bhaiya Captain To Aap Hai” – Ishan Kishan Humorously Teased Rohit Sharma For Being Dropped Despite His ODI Double Century

Ishan Kishan is one of the very few Indian batters who have notched up a double hundred in one-day cricket. He scored an electrifying 210 runs from just 131 balls against Bangladesh in Chattogram in December 2022, including 24 fours and 10 sixes.

In January 2023, Shubman Gill soon became a member of the club for players who have scored two hundred runs in ODIs, when he clouted 208 runs from 149 balls against New Zealand in Hyderabad. India was able to notch up 349 runs at the loss of 8 wickets during the fifty overs alloted completely winning that match by 12 runs.

After the match, Rohit Sharma who has made three double-hundreds in ODIs was also part of these light-hearted interactions with Gill and Kishan.

In the course of the conversation, Rohit pretended to be playful asking Kishan why he was not chosen for the next three matches after scoring such a magnificent innings. But what happened was a great comeback from him that left both Rohit and Gill laughing uncontrollably.

Here is the conversation:

Rohit: “Ishan yaar, apne 200 bana k teen match nahi khela yaar.” (Ishan, you did not play three games after scoring 200.)

Kishan: “Bhaiya captain to aap hai.” (Brother, you are the captain.)

Against Bangladesh, Kishan made his debut ODI double century while opening the batting since Rohit was not included in the series. However, when the captain came back for three matches against Sri Lanka, Kishan had to leave his position because Gill was chosen as the second opener. The absence of KL Rahul gave a chance for the left-handed bat to play at number four against New Zealand.

Ishan Kishan’s ODI statistics following his double century

Since his one-day double hundred against Bangladesh in Chattogram in December 2022, Kishan has featured in 17 ODI matches (15 innings) and has scored 456 runs at an average of 35.07 and a strike rate of 93.63, with four half-centuries to his credit.

During this period, his top score was 82 against Pakistan in Pallekele in September 2023. This innings was preceded by three successive fifties – 52, 55 and 77 – all during the tour of West Indies.
