Indian cricketer KL Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty held a “Cricket for Charity” auction in Mumbai to generate funds for the Vipla Foundation, which aims to impart education to those impoverished kids.

The auction held on August 23 featured prized possession from the eminent personalities in international cricket. The aim of the event was to raise money for an admirable cause of educating under-privileged children in this foundation.

A show of courage exhibited by the auction, has been able to bring the cricketing fraternity together. It showed that both sport and charity can work hand in glove to help those whose lives are more miserable than theirs.

An outstanding INR 1.93 crores were raised from the auction by the famous KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty duo which made the phenomenon a huge hit. This is an example of how sports can drive social change.

The remarkable price of INR 40 lakhs for Virat Kohli’s jersey among all the memorabilia shows how valuable the Indian player’s brand is in the marketplace. Virat Kohli sold both his jersey and his gloves for an incredible INR 28 lakhs.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli‘s colleague for India, was also not far behind. INR 24 lakhs was earned by Rohit’s bat. MS Dhoni, the former captain of India, also made a contribution to the auction during this time. Dhoni’s bat brought in INR 13.

Much has not changed on Dhoni’s part despite retiring from international cricket more than five years ago. In India, you will find Dhoni revered among cricketers. The Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper batter still plays Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, the bat of former Indian coach Rahul Dravid went under the hammer at INR 11 lakhs.
