Indian Player Barinder Sran Has Announced His Retirement From Both International And Domestic Cricket

The announcement of retirement from both domestic and international cricket was made by Indian Fast Bowler Barinder Sran in an Instagram post on August 29th which was a Thursday. Sran hailing from Punjab made his ODI debut for India against Australia in Perth back in 2016 with three wickets under his belt.

During the IPL season of 2016, Sran had an exceptional season, claiming 14 wickets from as many matches which were crucial for SunRisers Hyderabad’s title-winning campaign.

Later on, he made his T20I debut in that same year during the series against Zimbabwe where he took six wickets in two games thus earning him the Player of the Series award. Nevertheless, he did not get selected to play for national team again nor did he have any other appearances for India.

On Instagram, the 31 year old thanked everyone and reminisced on how far he has come from boxing to being able to represent India. Here is what Barinder Sran wrote:

“As I officially hang up my cricket boots, I look back at my journey with a heart full of gratitude. Since switching from boxing in 2009, cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences.”

”Fast bowling soon became my lucky charm and opened doors to represent prestigious IPL franchises, ultimately culminating in the highest honor of representing India in 2016.”

Barinder represented the country in six ODIs, where he took seven wickets, with his final appearance being a match against Zimbabwe in 2016.

The left-arm pace bowler moreover stated that even though his career was short-lived, he would always look back at the experiences he gained positively. In addition, Sran appreciated the backing from the trainers and administration during all phases of his career path.

“Even though my international career was brief, the memories created will be forever cherished. I am eternally grateful to the almighty for getting me the right coaches and management, who have supported me throughout my journey.”

”And I think this is the right time to retire from international and domestic cricket , i would also like to thank @pcacricketassociation and BCCI for their support,” Sran wrote.

“As I embark on this new chapter, I carry immense gratitude for the opportunities that cricket has afforded me. Lastly, as the saying goes, “Just like the sky, dreams have no limits”, so keep dreaming,” he continued.

Barinder Sran’s IPL career lasted for just 24 matches with 18 wickets, though he got his last chance to play in this tournament in 2019 while playing for Mumbai Indians. Furthermore, he has also been involved in 18 first-class games wherein he acquired 47 wickets for Punjab.
