Rachin Ravindra starts his practice for New Zealand and Afghanistan’s one-off test on September 9 onwards at Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground which is considered as Afghanistan’s adopted home ground with its first Test match ever hosted there.
On Monday (September 2), Ravindra was observed batting in nets at the Super Kings academy scattered across Tamil Nadu and beyond. Since he is part of Super Kings team, New Zealand all-rounder made good use of this chance.
Along with him was Ben Sears, a fellow Kiwi, who too was seen practicing in nets over there. The latter had played his first-ever test match against Australia earlier this year in March where he captured four wickets.

So far, Rachin Ravindra has represented New Zealand in seven Tests. The left-handed batsman has scored 519 runs, including a double century against South Africa. He has also taken 10 wickets in as many games with his left-arm spin bowling.
In addition to playing Afghanistan in a one-off Test, Ravindra will be playing a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka in the month of September. Additionally, the Blackcaps are due for a three-match Test series in October.
Rachin Ravindra was recently seen in action during the 2024 edition of Major League Champions (MLC) with reigning champions, Washington Freedom who emerged as second best on the overall wicket-takers list having taken 12 wickets from only seven outings, just behind his teammate Saurabh Netravalkar (15 scalps from seven). However, he could only manage 99 runs from seven innings at bat.
How did Rachin Ravindra perform for CSK in IPL 2024?
In IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings had Rachin Ravindra, who was bought for 1.8 crores and helped out the team by playing 10 matches for them. 222 runs from a single fifty were scored by this 24-year-old batsman with a strike rate of 160.87. And he managed to take seven wickets too, but with an economy of 3.50 runs per over.
To date, he has played in 76 T20s scoring 1011 runs which include three half-centuries as well. Additionally, he has taken 55 wickets while maintaining a 7.07 economy in all formats so far. So, it is very possible that the Wellington-born cricketer may be retained before the IPL 2025 season.
