“He Doesn’t Go Back And Do Backbiting” – Danish Kaneria Praises Gautam Gambhir While Criticizing Pakistan Cricket

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria believes the country’s cricket team has suffered a drastic decline because things are being taken for granted. He also stated that Pakistan needs a strong head coach like India’s Gautam Gambhir, who is straightforward.

Ever since the national cricket team of Pakistan lost its 2-0 Test match series against Bangladesh at home; they have been facing a lot of criticisms. Before this encounter which featured two Test matches in Rawalpindi, it was unheard of that Pakistan would ever lose a test match to Bangladesh.

Speaking on Republic TV, Kaneria said that both the Pakistan cricket team and their cricket board need to be questioned about their operations. He added (as quoted by TOI):

“Everything is taken for granted; that’s why the downfall of Pakistan cricket has gone through making captains, changing captain. That will not work. Stick to your captain, stick with him.”

“Okay, I have made him the captain for one year. I will ask him. I will ask him to give me an answer after one year. Nobody will touch him you have full support from me, but you need to perform. If you don’t perform, you go out, so that’s the thing you have to make tough decisions. Why, if you don’t make tough decisions, things will not work,” the former Pakistan leg-spinner added.

With a mention to the Indian cricket team, Kaneria posited that it is doing well thanks to people like Rahul Dravid (former head coach) and Gambhir (current head coach). Commenting on India’s support staff, 43 year-old man noted:

“Why today other teams are doing so well? Why is the Indian team is doing so well? They had Rahul Dravid who worked with the team very well now they have Gautam Gambhir, a fantastic cricketer and fantastic guy. The way he reacts, he tells on the face. He doesn’t go back and do backbiting; he’s on the face straight away. This is how you have to be.”

“You have to be strong, and like a strong person, you have to make the decision on the face, not at the back,” Kaneria concluded.

Dravid was team’s coach when India won T20 World Cup in 2024. This lasted until after the tournament whereupon Gambhir succeeded him from cricketing legend out of India.

How Pakistan was defeated in the Test series by Bangladesh

In Rawalpindi, Bangladesh triumphed over Pakistan with a ten wickets margin in the first Test match. Bangladesh achieved a massive 565 runs in response to Pakistan’s 448-6 declared and then bowled out Pakistan for only 146 runs in their second innings, thus setting a record for the visitors.

However, in the second game at that same venue, Pakistan bowled out Bangladesh for just 26 runs before they had recovered to post an even 262 runs while playing on a flat pitch where everything seemed possible. The hosts were also restricted to only 172 runs in reply and therefore lost by six wickets to Bangladesh who excelled during this match.
