“If You Want Evidence I Will Give It” – Basit Ali Sparks Controversy With A Match-Fixing Comment In A Recent Video

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has stirred controversy by accusing a ‘mentor’ of the Champions One-Day Cup of match-fixing. He asserted that he has evidence of a player intentionally losing a match and criticized the appointment of the mentor.

The Champions One-Day Cup tournament of Pakistan has its mentors as Sarfaraz Ahmed, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq. This tournament started on September 12 and will finish on September 29.

Meanwhile, Basit says in a clip that is going viral on social media that somebody cannot be a mentor if he/she has acknowledged to have lost a match.

“The one who doesn’t think about the country, should not be appointed. The one who has admitted that he has deliberately lost a match, should not be the mentor. If you want evidence I will give it,” he is heard commenting in the video.

“Ramiz Raja Saheb interviewed Shoaib Malik. What did he say?” the 53-year-old went on to add.

Nevertheless, it is not clear which mentor he was alluding to since near the end of the video the former Pakistani batsman mentions Malik’s name. In the first match of the tournament held at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, Markhor beat Panthers by 160 runs as far we talk about Champions One Day Cup.

Markhors batted first and made 347-6 according to their allotted 50 overs; Kamran Ghulam scored 115 runs off 102 balls. Other contributors were Abdul Samad who made 62 from just 25 balls while Iftikhar Ahmed contributed an unbeaten score of 57 off 44 deliveries. On the other hand, Panthers managed to get themselves to 187 all out in just 34.5 overs.

Basit Ali recently criticized PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi

Basit has been critical of Pakistan cricket for the last few days. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he recently attacked PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi over how he does his job. While sharing his views on the downfall of Pakistan cricket, the former cricketer said:

“Mohsin Naqvi, please open your eyes. You say that you will fix Pakistan’s cricket, but it cannot happen like this. It is the bitter truth. People criticize me when I speak about Yasir Shah. Now, Ravichandran Ashwin has said the same thing, expressing surprise over the dearth of spinners in Pakistan. I may be wrong, but is Ashwin also wrong?”

“Even Sourav Ganguly spoke about how Pakistan cricket has deteriorated. The promises made to fix Pakistan’s cricket are nothing but gimmicks,” he added.

Basit, a well-acclaimed batting talent, however never realized his capability. He played out 19 Test matches and 50 One Day Internationals accumulating runs worth 858 and 1265 respectively.
