Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has expressed his contentment with the latest support team of head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir took the position in July when he engaged in India’s tour to Sri Lanka.

Even though India lost 0-2 in ODI series, Gambhir was able to win T20I series by 3-0 against Sri Lanka. For the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai, Gambhir will be making his debut as coach for the Test team.

As Team India prepares for a match with Bangladesh, these encouraging statements from Captains seem to be in order and should motivate them. Team India aspires to perform well on this Test cricket season and also it will be helpful if there is some level of experience and knowledge brought on board by Gambhir.

Therefore, this first test will serve as a true test of Gambhir’s capacity to coach at that highest level. On how far India will go under Gambhir’s captaincy would depend largely on Rohit’s backing and harmoniousness amongst players.

Rohit Sharma, India’s ODI and Test captain, spoke to reporters on Tuesday before of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, saying the team has adjusted well to the differences in teaching techniques between current head coach Gautam Gambhir and his predecessor Rahul Dravid.

“Obviously Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour and Paras Mhambrey were a different team; and it is only acceptable that the new support staff will bring different perspective,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.

“The matches that we engaged in (with the new staff) in Sri Lanka, they seemed to be sensible and understanding. They began to learn things pretty quickly within the team,” he added.

Rohit stressed his ease of working with Gambhir during his playing days and with Nayar in the Mumbai dressing room, citing his long-standing relationships with both men.

“It’s a new (support) staff for sure, but I have known Gautam Gambhir and Abhishek Nayar long enough. Every support staff has its operating style, and that’s what we were expecting” Rohit said

“I have worked with different coaches over 17 years of my career, and it’s vital to understand that all of them have a unique perspective (about cricket), and it’s a must that you adjust with them,” said Rohit.

The Chennai Test, which begins September 19, will be India’s first red-ball game under Gambhir.
