“I Fell Ill And The Police Brought Me To The Hospital” – Bangladesh Fan Clarified A Viral Video From Day 1 Of The 2024 Second Test

Bangladeshi fan “Tiger Roby” clarified a viral video of himself from Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur, on September 27. While some social media users claimed he was assaulted, the fan explained that he had fallen ill at the stadium and was taken to the hospital by police.

Only 35 overs were bowled on the first day due to rain and poor weather. India won the toss and chose to bowl first, with Bangladesh ending the day at 107-3, Mominul Haque remaining unbeaten on 40.

A video showing the distressed fan circulated widely, leading to allegations of his being beaten. However, in a clarification to PTI, the fan addressed the incident:

‘I fell ill and the police brought me to the hospital. Now I am feeling much better. My name is Roby and I have come from Bangladesh.”

The news agency reported Abhishek Pandey, ACP (Kalyanpur), stating that ‘Tiger Roby’ received immediate medical treatment and confirmed that he had not been assaulted. Earlier reports suggested he had been struck in the lower abdomen by some spectators at the stadium.

PTI also quoted an official from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, who noted that when the Bangladesh fan emerged from the stands, he appeared to be in pain and on the verge of fainting. The official mentioned that ‘Tiger Roby’ was provided a chair to sit but collapsed instead.

“We do not know if he was hit by somebody. We have a constable in that stand to keep an eye on the fans. And We could not understand what he was saying. Probably he had pain,” the official explained.

The official explained that, due to the ambulance’s delay, the in-stadium medical team transported him to a nearby facility.

Akash Deep stood out on the rain-affected Day 1 of the IND vs BAN 2024 second Test

India entered the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh with the same playing XI. After choosing to bowl first, pacer Akash Deep made an impact by taking two early wickets, dismissing Zakir Hasan for a duck and trapping Shadman Islam lbw for 24.

Mominul and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then steadied Bangladesh’s innings, adding 51 runs for the third wicket. However, Ravichandran Ashwin ended their partnership by getting Shanto lbw for 31.
