Mohammed Shami Faces Another Injury Setback

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami‘s return to cricket has hit a major hurdle, leaving fans concerned about his availability for upcoming matches. After a strong performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Shami has been sidelined due to a knee injury that required surgery. His recovery was on track for a return in the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in November. However, recent reports suggest that the fast bowler has developed swelling in his knee, further delaying his comeback.

Swollen Knee Extends Recovery

According to the Times of India, Shami’s swollen knee could keep him out of action for an additional six to eight weeks. This new development casts doubt on his participation in the five-match Test series against Australia. A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Shami had resumed bowling and was on course to return to competitive cricket.

Unfortunately, the swelling flared up unexpectedly, and now the BCCI’s medical team is re-evaluating his condition. Despite the setback, the team is doing everything possible to get Shami back on the field soon.

Shami’s Determination to Return Fully Fit

Shami has expressed his eagerness to return to the Indian cricket team, emphasizing the importance of being fully fit before making his comeback. He shared in September that while he is pushing himself to recover quickly, he wants to avoid any discomfort or risk of further injury. Shami’s focus remains on regaining full fitness to avoid complications when facing Bangladesh, New Zealand, or Australia.

He stated, “The stronger I return, the better it is for me. I don’t want to rush and risk getting injured again.” Shami’s commitment to his recovery underscores his determination to contribute to Team India in top form.
