“A Rebirth”: Varun Chakravarthy Celebrates His Return to the Indian Squad

Varun Chakravarthy described his return to the Indian cricket team after a three-year hiatus as a “rebirth” and an “emotional moment.” Following a stellar performance against Bangladesh, where India chased down a modest target of 127 with 49 balls to spare, Chakravarthy’s contributions included a remarkable bowling spell of 3/31.

This match marked a promising start for the Indian team in the three-match series, with Chakravarthy thanking legendary spinner R. Ashwin for boosting his confidence during the last Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

Aiming to Stay in the Moment

In an interview with broadcaster Jio Cinema, Chakravarthy expressed how significant it felt to wear the Indian jersey again. He emphasized his commitment to focusing on the present rather than looking too far ahead in his career. “It feels nice to be back in the Blues. It feels like a rebirth; I just want to stick to the process,” he stated. Despite his limited experience, playing in only his seventh T20I, Chakravarthy effectively unsettled Bangladeshi batters, including Jaker Ali, who was bowled out by a turning delivery.

Gaining Confidence Through Preparation

Chakravarthy highlighted his preparations leading up to this series, particularly his training with Ashwin during the TNPL. He credited the tournament as a high-standard platform that contributed to his growth as a player, stating, “That’s a place where I work a lot with Ash (Ashwin) bhai; we won the championship as well. That gave me the confidence here.”

Reflecting on the challenges faced during his absence from the Indian squad, he acknowledged how easily players can be written off when they are out of the spotlight. “You need to stay at the highest level, knocking on the door repeatedly,” he remarked, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to return.

Despite a dropped catch in his first over, Chakravarthy remained positive, accepting it as part of the game. “It could have gone my way, but that’s how cricket is,” he said. Fellow pace bowler Arshdeep Singh, who was named Player of the Match, praised Mayank Yadav’s bowling during his return from injury, showcasing the promising talent in the squad as they aim to build on this momentum in future matches.
