With no cricketing actions taking place for more than two months now, a lot of former and current cricketers have been busy interviewing each other and interacting with fans on social media. While their discussions involved everything and anything around cricket and beyond, one question featured in almost every interaction – Who is the best batsman in world cricket right now? Virat Kohli or Steve Smith?

Well, the latest one to answer the tricky question is the skipper of Australia Aaron Finch. The flamboyant opening batsman has answered it in a format-wise saying that Steve Smith holds the edge in the Test format of the game while Virat Kohli is ahead of the Australian in ODI and T20 forms.

Steve Smith is an unbelievable Test player – Aaron Finch

Finch pointed out that the two batsmen have great records in both home and away conditions. He gave the example of Kohli’s contrasting tour of England in 2014 and 2018. He also credited his teammate Smith as a dominant performer in all countries.

“I think in Test cricket, Virat and Smith’s record at home and in away games is unbelievable. Virat had a tough series a few years ago in England against James Anderson. But then he came back to England in 2018 and dominated the series,” Finch was quoted as saying in an interview to Sports Tak.

“Smith has never really struggled anywhere, to be fair. He is an unbelievable Test player. I think Smith just has an edge in Test cricket. Virat’s probably has played on wickets that have deteriorated a lot quicker when the ball started spinning big and going a little bit lower a bit more often. Smith in Test cricket is unbelievable, I think his game plan is so well, he’s so good at,” he further explained.

So far, Virat Kohli has scored 70 international hundreds and averages more than 50 in all three formats, whereas, Smith averages higher than Kohli in Test cricket with 7227 runs in 73 games at 62.74.
