Pakistan suffered a defeat against England by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test of the three-match series in Multan on Day 5 (Friday, October 11). This loss followed a strong performance by the hosts, who scored 556 runs in their first innings.

Batting first, Pakistan’s total of 556 featured centuries from captain Shan Masood (151 off 177), Abdullah Shafique (102 off 184), and Agha Salman (104* off 119). Jack Leach was the standout bowler for England, claiming three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse took two each.

In reply, England declared their first innings at 823/7. Harry Brook led the scoring with a remarkable 317 off 322 balls, including three sixes and 29 fours, while Joe Root contributed 262 off 375 with 17 boundaries.

The pair forged a massive 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket, leaving Pakistan in a difficult position. Naseem Shah and Saim Ayub each took two wickets for the hosts.

In reply, Shan Masood’s team was bowled out for 220 in their second innings. Agha Salman scored 63 off 84 balls and Aamer Jamal contributed an unbeaten 55 off 104, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

Pakistan Fails To Win A Single Home Test In Their Last 10 Games

With this loss, Pakistan continues their poor run at home. The Men in Green have not secured a home Test victory in their last 10 matches, recording four draws and six losses.

The Shan Masood-led side recently lost the two-match Test series 0-2 against Bangladesh. Under his captaincy, Pakistan also lost the three-match Test series in Australia 0-3. The second Test between Pakistan and England will be played at the same venue, starting Tuesday, October 15.
