“Disastrous End To The Tournament” – Fans Respond To India’s Elimination In The Group Stage Of The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup

India has been eliminated from the ongoing 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Women in Blue secured only two victories in four group-stage matches, winning against Pakistan and Sri Lanka by six wickets and 82 runs, respectively.

However, the team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, suffered losses to New Zealand and Australia by 58 runs and nine runs, respectively. Team India depended on Pakistan for a chance to reach the semifinals based on net run rate (NRR).

The Women in Green were eliminated from the tournament after losing a lopsided match against the White Ferns by 54 runs on October 14. New Zealand and Australia advanced to the top four from Group B.

Fans on X criticized the Indian women’s team for their early exit from the tournament. One user commented:

“Not even qualifying for semifinal is such a disastrous end to the tournament.”

Another user wrote:

“Please say them to make reel instead of playing cricket. They deserved to be knock out. We know what they did yesterday.”

A third user added:

“Good. They didn’t deserve.”

“Whichever Team Deserves It Will Make It” – Harmanpreet Kaur On The Race To The Playoffs In The Women’s T20 World Cup

Earlier, Harmanpreet Kaur gave a straightforward response when asked about India’s chances of reaching the semifinals of the Women’s T20 World Cup. After a narrow loss to Australia on October 13, she said:

“That [qualification] is something which is not in our control. If we get the opportunity to play another game, that will be great. But otherwise, whoever deserves to be there, that team will be there.”

Harmanpreet and Deepti Sharma had a prime opportunity to lead India to the semifinals, scoring 54* (47) and 29 (25) respectively, but they couldn’t chase down 152 against Australia. Kaur, in particular, managed just one run off four balls in the 17th over and scored only 2 runs off the last over when her team needed 14 runs from six balls.

Following the Women’s T20 World Cup, the Indian women’s team will face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, starting October 24.
