Sanju Samson, India’s outstanding keeper-batsman who recently scored his first T20I century against Bangladesh, spoke about his experience at the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite being on the team, Samson was neglected in favor of Rishabh Pant throughout the competition.

Samson revealed, in an unexpected turn of events, that he was originally scheduled to play in the finals. However, team management made a last-minute decision, depriving him the opportunity to assist.

Samson’s open admission provides insight into the dynamics of the Indian team’s selecting process. His recent achievements, such as his century against Bangladesh and his involvement in the 2024 Ranji Trophy, show how determined he is to remain relevant. Samson wants to use his abilities and perseverance to get back on the national team and have a significant influence in upcoming competitions.

“Let us win the match and then talk”- Sanju Samson

I was about to play T20 World Cup final, Rohit Sharma changed XI 10 minutes before toss: Sanju Samson | Crickit

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final versus South Africa, Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson disclosed that he was scheduled to play, but the Indian starting XI was altered mere moments before the toss.

Samson, who was getting ready to play in the Barbados match against South Africa, disclosed that skipper Rohit Sharma had personally told him the decision and had taken the time to explain the rationale.

“During the warm-up, Rohit took me to the side and started to explain to me why he was making that decision. He was like, ‘You understood, na? You know his way, very casual?’ I told him, ‘Let us win the match and then talk. You focus on the match. He came back one minute later and said, ‘I know you are cursing me in your mind.’ I think you are not happy. I feel like you have something on your mind. Then we had a discussion,” said Samson.

I told him, ‘As a player, I want to play’. I had a chance to play in the final. He was told to stay ready, However, they decided before the toss that we would go with the same team. I was like, no worries. I was in that type of mood,” he added.
