Mohammed Siraj’s Form Becomes A Concern Before Pune Test

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate addressed concerns regarding fast bowler Mohammed Siraj’s form ahead of the second Test against New Zealand in Pune. Siraj, despite a pitch favorable to fast bowlers in the first Test in Bengaluru, could only manage figures of 2-84 and 0-16. His lack of wickets, particularly in the second innings, raised questions about his performance.

Ten Doeschate, however, believes that Siraj is simply experiencing a “wicked drought” and praised his efforts, especially on the final day. He emphasized that Siraj’s rhythm and bowling quality remain strong, noting that his lack of success was more due to conditions rather than a decline in form.

No Concerns Over Siraj’s Performance

During a press conference, ten Doeschate rejected the notion that Siraj’s form is a major worry for the team. He highlighted the fast bowler’s effectiveness on Day 5 of the first Test, despite not getting wickets. “Siraj bowled beautifully in the second innings. Our last morning was of really high quality.

It probably wasn’t a nicking wicket, which is his strength, especially against left-handers,” ten Doeschate explained. He reaffirmed his belief that Siraj is still performing well and that the absence of wickets is not indicative of any technical issues. The coach also mentioned a few tactical adjustments, such as coming around the wicket and targeting the stumps more, which could help Siraj get back among the wickets.

Will Akash Deep Replace Siraj?

Despite ten Doeschate’s confidence in Siraj, there remains speculation over his place in the playing XI for the Pune Test. With Mohammed Shami still recovering from surgery, Siraj’s form will be crucial for India, especially with a challenging five-Test series in Australia looming.

However, fast bowler Akash Deep, who has performed well in recent Tests, is waiting on the sidelines and could be considered as a replacement if the team management decides to make a change. Siraj, known for his effectiveness in overseas conditions, will need to regain his wicket-taking touch soon to secure his place in India’s lineup for the remainder of the series and the upcoming Australia tour.
