Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, over a span of two decades, won many laurels for his country. With 100 international centuries and over 34000 runs, he created a brand for himself. Thus, it was obvious that the entire nation mourned when Tendulkar played his last game in November 2013.
In 200 Tests and 463 ODIs, Tendulkar managed 15921 and 18426 runs respectively. He retired from One-day international cricket in December 2012 and from all forms of the game in November 2013. He played his last game in his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
I wanted to pick the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar for my son: Tino Best
West Indies fast bowler Tino Best recent recalled how the entire crowd went against him when Sachin Tendulkar was batting for the last time in his international career. It was an electrifying crowd with everyone present in the stands booing the Caribbean fast bowler. Best was keen to pick Tendulkar’s wicket for his son but couldn’t manage so.
“I hugged and thanked him for being so kind and said that I hope to bowl at him someday. Finally, when I got an opportunity to bowl at him in his final test I was like, Legend I am going to give my everything at you. I wanted to pick his wicket for my son but it didn’t happen.
But, I remember the Wankhede crowd going “Tino Sucks, Tino sucks”..and I just loved that energy. So for me, that was the highlight of my career,” Best said in a conversation with a Yash Kashikar on “Say Yash To Sports.”
Speaking further on his relationship with Sachin Tendulkar, Tino Best said that the Indian legend always remembered him for running into Andrew Flintoff. Sachin and Best first met each other way back in 2002 and the legendary batsman also had gifted the Caribbean his Champions Trophy jersey.
“Sachin told me the funniest thing he had seen was when I ran into Freddie Flintoff and bowled at him without the ball..and he always remembered me for it. He also gave me his Champions Trophy India shirt,” Best added.
