Mohammed Shami’s brother faces arrest over physical assault with cops: Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami’s brother, Mohammad Haseeb was arrested by the police in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh after he was accused of allegedly assaulting police officers. Haseeb reportedly had an argument with policemen and tore their clothes.
According to reports, Shami’s brother had a dispute with police who were investigating a matter related to cow slaughter.
However Mohammad Shami’s father Tauseef Ahmad believes that ‘cow slaughter’ is being used to target them. According to him, it is just a few persons developing enmity with their family because of the publicity and fame they got after Shami’s involvement in Indian cricket.
Tauseef Ahmad: “My son was not even present there at the time of the incident and had reached the site only much later. He (Haseeb) was just an onlooker like so many others who had gathered there. He was unnecessarily dragged into the controversy. It is just that a few persons are nurturing enmity with our family because of the publicity we have got after Shami started playing for team India.”
Haseeb, who was released on bail a day after also accused of ‘pressuring cops’ to release a group of men arrested on charges of cow slaughter.
Amroha district magistrate Ved Prakash said that Tauseef Ahmed had approached him a month ago but the latter did not reveal the identity of the person who was threatening his family.
Shami’s father said “I had reported the issue to the DM in this regard a month ago. This (the arrest) is the result of that. A term like ‘cow slaughter’ is being used to target us.”
Station officer of Didoli police station, Praveen Kumar, got information regarding a person wanted in a case of cow slaughter. When the crew led by Praveen Kumar went to arrest the man, Haseeb allegedly resisted the police from doing their job and got into a conflict with sub-inspector Pradeep Bhardwaj, tearing the latter”s uniform.
