The current crop of fast bowlers has played a significant role in India’s dominance in the last couple of years in the red-ball format. Skipper Virat Kohli has backed his bowlers outright which has reaped massive rewards. Recently, former India skipper Rahul Dravid explained why the current attack is the best in Indian cricketing history.
India have witnessed a steep growth in the fast bowlers in the last couple of years. The likes of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma have produced their best game. They were lethal in Australia helping India register their maiden Test series win down under. In the following home season, they continue to deliver the goods.
Every fast bowler is different: Rahul Dravid
Recently, former India skipper Rahul Dravid shared his views on the current pace attack during his live chat on Sony Ten Pit Stop. Dravid said that India has in the past had good pacers but never had the kind of depth in their fast bowling department as they have now.
“As a collection of fast bowlers, I think this is the best fast bowling attack we have had. We have got great fast bowlers like Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan.
“But as a group and in fact even outside the main group, the likes of Navdeep Saini, Siraj, Shardul Thakur have been doing well at the A team level. What’s different is that you don’t have to worry about which three bowlers you will put in the park. They are all doing well,” he added.
Speaking further, Rahul Dravid believes everyone is different from the other is the current side which makes the attack look more complete. Dravid has also played a key role in the India A side and at the National Cricket Academy preparing a strong backup for the national side.
“India has developed depth in fast bowling and they are all peaking right now. Also, they are all different. Bumrah with his angle, Ishant has height, Shami is skiddy and swings the ball more, Umesh is slingy so they are all unique in their own way,” Dravid said.
