Mitchell Santner, New Zealand’s hero in Pune, was sidelined by injury ahead of the Mumbai Test, dealing them a setback. Ish Sodhi and Matt Henry took the places of Santner and Tim Southee in the visitors’ lineup.

In an attempt to defeat India 3-0 at home, Tom Latham won his second toss of the series and chose to bat first. Winning the toss was important since it might get harder to bat last on the pitch at Wankhede Stadium.

The Kiwis want to make history by sweeping India, who are having trouble getting going. To prevent a humiliating whitewash, the Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, needs to react forcefully. India will concentrate on getting a consolation victory to improve their chances because the World Test Championship final position is up for grabs. In Mumbai, the stage is set for an exciting contest.

Mitchell Santner won Player of the Match for his outstanding effort in Pune, when he took 13 wickets to help New Zealand win the series in India for the first time ever. The Indian batting order was destroyed by his destructive spell.

But Santner’s injury problems started in Mumbai. At the toss, New Zealand captain Tom Latham disclosed that Santner was unable to play in the third Test due to a side strain. Santner was replaced in the lineup by Ish Sodhi. Despite the loss, New Zealand chose to win the toss and bat first in an attempt to defeat India 3-0 and create cricket history on Indian soil.

Mitch Santner has got a little bit of a side strain. Ish Sodhi comes in. Matt Henry is fit and he comes in for Tim Southee,” said Latham.

Santner was seen clutching his side while bowling during the Pune Test, but he overcame the pain to take six wickets in the second innings as New Zealand triumphed by 113 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the game, and Mohammed Siraj was added back into the starting lineup, marking India’s only change of the day.
