[WATCH]- Washington Sundar Dismisses Tom Latham With A Stunner

New Zealand captain Tom Latham‘s promising start on Day 1 of the third Test against India was cut short by a brilliant delivery from Washington Sundar at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, November 1. The left-handed batsman made 28 runs off 44 balls before being dismissed midway through the first session.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, New Zealand lost Devon Conway in the fourth over. Latham and Will Young managed to weather the initial onslaught from the seamers before spin was introduced.

Similar to his solid fifty in the second innings in Pune, Latham appeared to be in control and was building a partnership for the second wicket. In the 16th over, Sundar delivered five consecutive dot balls, with the second-to-last being a delivery that turned with the arm.

The off-spinner bowled it on a length, tempting Latham to play a defensive shot. However, the ball maintained its line just enough to bypass the edge of the bat and the pad, striking the off-stump.

Sundar had also dismissed Latham in the second innings of the Pune Test. During that instance, the skipper attempted a sweep shot against a full delivery but missed the bat entirely.

Washington Sundar struck again to get Rachin Ravindra out in a similar way

Rachin Ravindra has had a standout series, but he has struggled against Washington Sundar. The all-rounder was introduced midway through the series to challenge New Zealand’s left-handed batsmen and has proven his critics wrong with his performances.

After dismissing Ravindra twice in the second Test in Pune, Sundar got him out again. The New Zealand all-rounder came in after Latham’s dismissal but managed to score only five runs before facing a similar fate.

At the time of writing, New Zealand is at 75-3 after 21 overs, with Will Young unbeaten on 32 and joined by Daryl Mitchell.
