[WATCH]- Virat Kohli’s Poor Run-Out Before Stumps Cost Him Dearly In The Third Test Against New Zealand

India’s number four, Virat Kohli, was run out again on Friday during the third Test against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. With the score at a tense 84/3, he attempted a risky single off Rachin Ravindra but was caught short after Matt Henry made a quick pick-up and throw from mid-off.

Kohli was dismissed for just four runs, marking his fifth consecutive low score in the series, and leaving India at 84/4 just before stumps on Day 1. You can watch the video here:

The run-out was a surprising moment for the dressing room for several reasons. Kohli had walked out smiling and confidently faced the spin attack, even hitting an easy boundary off Ravindra just before his dismissal.

With only minutes left until stumps, taking such a big risk for a single run seemed unnecessary. While Kohli usually chooses his fielders wisely for singles, Henry is known for his exceptional fielding skills in a strong team. This marked only Kohli’s fourth run-out in Test matches, and his second in two years, the last being in July 2023.

His running has been erratic due to his struggling batting performance. In the previous match, a miscommunication with Rishabh Pant resulted in Pant losing his wicket cheaply, and Kohli nearly faced the same fate later in that game.

Virat Kohli’s dismissal marks a disastrous 15 minutes for India

At stumps on the first day, India found themselves at 86/4, having been comfortably positioned at 78/1 just moments earlier. The well-set opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the first to go during this troubling period, attempting a reverse sweep against Ajaz Patel and getting bowled.

India sent out Mohammed Siraj as the night watchman, but he was out LBW on his first ball, wasting a review before returning to the pavilion. Kohli and Gill’s inability to survive the final over leaves India 149 runs behind in the first innings, with six wickets remaining to take the lead.
