Andre Russell Ruled Out As West Indies Announce Their Squad For The Remaining 3 T20Is vs England

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named the squad for the final three T20Is of their five-match series against England, all of which will be played in St. Lucia. The hosts have made a few changes, including the omission of all-rounder Andre Russell.

Russell, who injured his ankle in the opening game in Bridgetown, Barbados, has been ruled out for the rest of the series. Despite hitting four sixes in a 17-ball 30, he failed to take a wicket in his two overs, conceding 27 runs. Shamar Springer, who made his T20I debut in Sri Lanka last month, will replace Russell in the squad.

Alzarri Joseph, who missed two games following an on-field altercation in the third ODI against England, has been reinstated and will replace Shamar Joseph. Alzarri impressed with his performance in the ODI series win over England.

West Indies 2024 squad against England: Rovman Powell (capt), Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Roston Chase, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Terrance Hinds, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Shamar Springer.

West Indies face must-win matches in the St. Lucia leg against England

Having successfully chased down targets in both T20Is against the two-time world champions, England, West Indies must win the remaining three matches to secure the series. In the first match, the hosts set a challenging target of 183, thanks to contributions from Russell, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, and Romario Shepherd.

However, the West Indies bowlers had no answer to the Phil Salt’s dominant 103*, which guided England to an eight-wicket victory. In the second T20I, despite dismissing Salt for a first-ball duck, Jos Buttler’s 83 off 45 balls led England to chase down 159 and win by seven wickets.
