David Miller is set to be one of the top overseas players in the IPL 2025 auction. With a base price of ₹2 crore, he is featured in the prestigious 12-player marquee list. Miller played for Gujarat Titans in the last three IPL seasons.
Although he managed 210 runs in nine matches during IPL 2024, his performance wasn’t enough to make a significant impact, as the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. As a result, he was released by the franchise ahead of the auction.
The seasoned batter also had a strong showing in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where he scored 268 runs at a strike rate of 162.42, including an unbeaten 71*.
Known for his ability to dominate in the death overs, Miller is likely to attract considerable interest from several franchises during the auction. With that in mind, let’s explore some teams that might target Miller on auction day.
#1 Gujarat Titans (GT)
The southpaw played for Gujarat Titans over the past three seasons, amassing 950 runs in 41 matches. In 2022, he scored 481 runs and played a key role in helping the team win the championship. However, the franchise chose to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
With Gujarat retaining top-order batsmen like Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, they are in need of an explosive finisher to partner with Shahrukh Khan. Miller is an ideal fit for this role, having previously played alongside the Tamil Nadu batter. Last year, the pair shared a crucial 61-run partnership to help the team set a total of 147 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Additionally, the 35-year-old boasts an excellent record at the Narendra Modi Stadium, having scored 308 runs at an average of 44 and a strike rate of nearly 155 in 15 games. The Titans may well use an RTM (Right to Match) card to bring him back into their squad.
#2 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Royal Challengers Bangalore have opted to retain just two batters, Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, both of whom are likely to bat in the top three. This leaves the team with the challenge of building a strong middle order.
In their search for reliable middle-order options, RCB could target David Miller, who would be a formidable presence in the smaller confines of M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Notably, while playing for Punjab Kings in 2014, Miller blasted 66 off 29 balls against RCB at the same venue.
Over the years, the Bengaluru franchise has sought a consistent middle-order run-scorer. Miller could not only stabilize the innings in tough situations but also add finishing power in the death overs.
#3 Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings have retained just two players, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh, and are likely to focus on acquiring a seasoned finisher. David Miller has been one of the standout performers for Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab).
In 79 matches, he accumulated 1,850 runs at a strike rate of 138.78, including nine half-centuries. After parting ways with the franchise following the 2019 season, Miller went on to play for Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans.
In the 2014 season, he scored 446 runs in 16 games, helping the team finish as runners-up. Given his impressive record with PBKS (formerly KXIP), the team could show interest in bringing him back during the auction.
