This disappointment was followed by another early exit in the T20 World Cup the following year, prompting his removal from the position.
Before this, Riaz held the role of team manager but stepped down during a management overhaul in the PCB. Despite these setbacks, his appointment as supervisor and mentor signals PCB’s trust in his experience to guide the team effectively in the Champions Trophy.

Debuting against Zimbabwe in February 2008, Riaz had an illustrious international career, representing Pakistan in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is. He amassed 83 Test wickets, 120 ODI wickets, and 34 T20I dismissals over a career spanning more than a decade. His fiery spell against Shane Watson during the 2015 ODI World Cup remains a standout moment, showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure.
