The five-match Test series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is to start on November 22, with India playing against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth. The Indian side, which is under the leadership of captain Jasprit Bumrah, will want to get off to a good start in the series after they endured a home series drubbing against New Zealand.

This series will also be the debut tour of Australia for several Indian players. India has a rich history of playing Test matches in Perth, having competed in five matches at two stadiums: the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground (WACA) and Optus Stadium.

The Optus Stadium has been used only once to host a Test match between India and Australia. To kick off the series with a victory, India will be eager to make a handsome statement against the Australians.

India record at Perth in Tests:

India's Test Record Against Australia In Perth

India’s performance on the Perth ground in Test cricket has not been very impressive for the team. In five Test matches that have been conducted at this ground, India has scored victory only once.

The last cricket series between the two teams in the Optus Stadium was in 2018, and Australia triumphed with a 146-run margin.

India in particular would be aiming to correct the fortune at Perth Stadium again in the oncoming test against Australia. A win in the match will make India more confident and who better to beat Australia than India? It will also give the team a perfect start to the series.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Perth Stadium stats, pitch report, and more

India and Australia share a great record of Test cricket at Perth, where several batting feats have been registered. India is yet to post a total over 450 at this venue; the Indian team’s best performance was 402 for eight against Australia in 1977 at WACA. Ironically, their worst performance is recorded at the Optus Stadium, where in 2018 they had scored 141 all out against Australia. Australia’s highest at Perth is 735/6 d at WACA in 2003 against Zimbabwe.

Top scorers in Perth are Virat Kohli for India with 259 runs and Bob Simpson for Australia with 215 runs. One gets the impression from the batting records that Indian batsmen have struggled on Perth wickets.

If we talk about bowling records, Bishan Singh Bedi has most wickets to his credit for India, and on the other side, Mike Whitney has most wickets to his credit for the Australian side. Mohammed Shami is also the only Indian bowler to take a six-wicket haul twice in Australia; his haul of 6/56 at Perth in 2018 being his best bowling figures in Australia.
