Mayank Markande praised Pat Cummins as one of the best captains he has played under. The 27-year-old featured under Cummins’ leadership in the previous IPL season, where Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended as runners-up after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final.
Markande, who has represented India in a single T20I against Australia in 2019, delivered a decent performance last season, picking up eight wickets in seven matches with an economy rate of 11.77. He highlighted that Cummins consistently supports his teammates by providing valuable guidance.
“Pat Cummins is one of the best captains I have played under. The freedom and confidence he gives is very important for us to grow and perform. At any stage, you would not feel that the captain has left you alone. He is always there with us and I like Cummins as a captain,” Markande told Sports Today.

Markande, who played two seasons for Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma, praised the skipper for fostering a supportive atmosphere and backing bowlers. The spinner took 17 wickets in 19 matches during his MI stint.
“Rohit bhai always maintains a friendly atmosphere. He won’t let you feel out of place as a youngster. And He also gives us freedom and encourages us to back our plans. He will only step in when your plan isn’t working,” Markande added.
After representing SRH, MI, and Rajasthan Royals, Markande joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 30 lakhs in the Jeddah auction. Throughout his IPL journey, Markande has been a consistent performer, securing 37 wickets in 37 matches.
He has maintained an economy rate of 8.91 and boasts a four-wicket haul as one of his standout performances, showcasing his potential as a reliable spin bowler.
