Nahid Rana’s maiden five-wicket haul has placed Bangladesh in a commanding position in the second and final Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park. The young pacer was instrumental in dismantling the hosts, who were bowled out for 146 in their first innings, giving Bangladesh an 18-run lead.

Rana’s figures of 5/61 were complemented by contributions from Hasan Mahmud (2/19), Taskin Ahmed (1/10), Taijul Islam (1/36), and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1/16). This cohesive bowling effort disrupted the West Indies’ batting order and set the tone for Bangladesh’s strong position in the match.

Resilient Top Order Extends Bangladesh’s Lead

Following their excellent bowling display, Bangladesh’s top order showcased resilience in the second innings. By stumps, they had reached 193/5, extending their lead to 211 runs with five wickets still in hand.

Shadman Islam anchored the innings with a composed 46, while skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, batting higher in the order, contributed a quick-fire 42 off 39 balls. This steady batting effort underlined the team’s growing confidence and positioned them well to consolidate their advantage on the following day.

Rana Shines as West Indies Falter

The West Indies began the day at 70/1 but soon found themselves in trouble, thanks to Rana’s incisive spell. Adding four more scalps to his tally after dismissing Mikyle Louis on Day 1, Rana accounted for key wickets, including that of skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (39) and Keacy Carty, the top scorer with 40.

His pace and precision rattled the hosts, earning high praise from Bangladesh’s bowling coach Andre Adams. Adams lauded Rana’s ability to bowl consistently at 150 km/h, emphasizing the value of nurturing such young talent.

Rana’s 5/61 also marked his best First-Class figures, bringing his career tally to 82 wickets in 21 matches at an average of just over 25. This performance included four five-wicket hauls and six four-wicket hauls. His Test record now stands at 19 wickets in six matches, with this being his maiden five-for in international cricket. With such an impactful start, Rana has cemented his place as a rising star in Bangladesh’s pace attack.
