India’s speedster Jasprit Bumrah made the crucial breakthrough by dismissing Usman Khawaja in the final session on Day 1 of the second Border Gavaskar Trophy Test in Adelaide. Skipper Rohit Sharma took a sharp catch in the slip cordon to send the veteran batter back.
After being dismissed for 180 in their first innings, the Men in Blue needed their bowlers to deliver. Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj challenged the struggling Australian opening pair with the pink ball, but failed to claim a wicket initially.
In his sixth over of the spell, Bumrah kept Khawaja under control. On the last ball, coming around the wicket, Bumrah got the ball to move away after pitching. The left-handed opener, unable to resist the wide delivery, edged the ball to Rohit Sharma at second slip.

Usman Khawaja was dismissed for 13 runs off 35 balls, leaving Australia at 24/1 after 11 overs.
Bumrah had also dismissed Khawaja in a similar manner during the Perth Test
Indian pacers, including Mohammed Shami in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar series and currently Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, have consistently used the around-the-wicket angle against the left-handed Khawaja.
Khawaja had been caught in the same trap by Bumrah in Perth, with Virat Kohli taking the catch in the slip cordon on that occasion. The experienced opener is out of form, as his dismissal in Adelaide marks his eighth consecutive score under fifty.
At the time of writing, Indian bowlers are capitalizing on the pink ball’s swing under the lights in the final session. Jasprit Bumrah has completed a seven-over marathon spell, with Australia at 36/1 after 15 overs. Whereas, Marnus Labuschagne has joined Nathan McSweeney at the crease.
