[WATCH]- Lahiru Kumara Shatters Kagiso Rabada’s Bat With A Fiery Delivery In The Second Test

Sri Lanka pacer Lahiru Kumara broke South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada’s bat during Day 2 of the second and final Test at St George’s Oval in Gqeberha. The incident occurred during South Africa’s innings as Kyle Verreynne, who had been at the crease overnight, was joined by Keshav Maharaj.

However, Maharaj was dismissed for a duck in the first over of the day by Vishwa Fernando. Despite this, Verreynne continued his solid performance, reaching a well-earned century, while Rabada supported him from the other end.

South African wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne played a brilliant knock of 105* off 133 balls, including 12 boundaries and 3 sixes, against Sri Lanka. He also added 56 runs off 76 balls with Kagiso Rabada to help South Africa post 358 runs in their first innings.

During their partnership, Kagiso Rabada’s bat broke after Lahiru Kumara bowled a fast delivery in the 90th over. The ball struck the upper part of the bat, causing it to break and briefly halting play. The stoppage led to some light-hearted moments, with Angelo Mathews joining in the laughter.

Kagiso Rabada later contributed 23 runs off 40 balls to South Africa’s total against Sri Lanka. He was eventually clean bowled by Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test in Gqeberha.

Asitha Fernando Claims Kagiso Rabada’s Wicket in the Second Test

Asitha Fernando employed a clever tactic, holding the ball cross-seam as if preparing for a short delivery. However, Fernando bowled a full-length ball that angled in towards Rabada. Expecting a bouncer, Rabada’s feet remained fixed in the crease, and when he attempted to defend, he left a gap between his bat and pad, leading to his dismissal.

Unfortunately, the ball slipped through and clean bowled Rabada, ending his partnership with Kyle Verreynne, which Sri Lanka badly needed. Meanwhile, Lahiru Kumara claimed impressive figures of 4/79 against South Africa in Gqeberha.

This Test is crucial for both Sri Lanka and South Africa as they fight for a spot in the 2023-25 World Test Championship final at Lord’s. South Africa won the first Test by 233 runs in Durban, leading 1-0 in the series and aiming for a whitewash in the final match.
