[WATCH]: “Nb, wd, wd, wd, wd”-Naveen-ul-Haq Bowled A 13-Ball Over In The 2024 1st T20I

Naveen-ul-Haq had a difficult outing for Afghanistan in the opening T20I of their series against Zimbabwe. During the 15th over of Zimbabwe’s innings, he struggled to find control, bowling a no-ball followed by four consecutive wides, which severely impacted Afghanistan’s ability to contain the opposition.

The match took place at Harare Sports Club on December 11, where Zimbabwe successfully chased down a target of 145, defeating Afghanistan by four wickets on the final ball. Naveen’s costly 15th over, with its no-ball and wides, had a crucial influence on the game’s outcome, allowing Zimbabwe to gain vital runs and increasing the pressure on Afghanistan’s bowlers.

Though he finished with figures of 3/33 in four overs, including a maiden, his spell included a 13-ball over with seven extras. He began with a wide to Brian Bennett, followed by a single on the next ball.

Sikandar Raza took strike, and Naveen bowled a no-ball, which Raza hit for a boundary. The Afghanistan pacer then followed up with four consecutive wides, all outside the off stump.

Raza hit a four off the next legitimate delivery, which was the free hit, but was dismissed on the third ball. New batter Ryan Burl and Bennett took singles off the following two deliveries. Naveen bowled another wide to Burl before finishing the over by giving up a single.

Naveen-ul-Haq conceded 10 runs in the 19th over of Zimbabwe’s innings

Following Naveen’s poor 15th over, Afghanistan regained control in the next three overs. Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb ur Rahman gave away just 17 runs off the next 18 balls, reducing the target to 21 runs from 12 balls.

Naveen-ul-Haq bowled the 19th over without conceding any extras, but still allowed 10 runs. Azmatullah Omarzai failed to defend 11 runs in the final six balls, as Afghanistan lost their first T20I against Zimbabwe on Zimbabwean soil.
