The third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India at The Gabba has been affected by heavy rain, as forecasted, leading to a halt in play on Day 1 (Saturday, December 14). Just 13.2 overs were bowled before the interruption.

Though play resumed after an early rain break and the covers were removed, the overcast conditions persisted, with the threat of more rain looming. As of now, the weather and ground conditions remain unfavorable, with little hope of play resuming.

The ongoing heavy rain has disrupted the highly anticipated opening day of the Gabba Test, with the series tied at 1-1. With the rain continuing to pour, the covers are still in place. What seems more concerning are the puddles across the ground from the heavy downpour and the poor visibility at the venue due to the weather conditions.

Fans at the stadium and both countries are likely disappointed with the events on the opening day of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane. Although they remain hopeful for play to resume, the likelihood of any further action on Day 1 is rapidly decreasing.

Despite overcast conditions and rain forecasts, play began in Brisbane as the third BGT 2024-25 Test between Australia and India got underway. However, after just 5.3 overs, rain interrupted play following India’s decision to bowl first.

Play resumed as Australia continued their innings, but after 13.2 overs on the opening day, heavier rain returned, causing a long delay and likely ending any further play for the day.

Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja are unbeaten on four and 19, respectively, with Australia at 28 for no loss after 13.2 overs.
