Former Indian international cricketer Virat Kohli appeared to be emotional, especially when R Ashwin told him about the former’s decision to retire. Kohli also took to social media to express his gratitude to the bowler in a post where he described Ashwin as the most successful off-spinner for India. The emotional statement made by Kohli was enough to show how much Ashwin had influenced the cricket career of the India team.

R. Ashwin bid his Test cricket goodbye as the second-highest wicket-taker for India, holding 537 wickets in 106 games. He, however, lies second only to Anil Kumble, who has 619 test wickets to his cricketing boot. Ashwin has always been highly successful in the cricket field, and his best innings have stood out as evidence of him being one of the best spinners to have come out of India.

Virat Kohli declared that R Ashwin would be “remembered as a legend of Indian cricket” and praised the off-spinner’s match-winning contributions in Test cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, just minutes after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s third Test finished in a draw due to rain.

“I have played with you for 14 years and when you told me today you’re retiring, it made me a bit emotional and the flashbacks of all those years playing together came to me. I’ve enjoyed every bit of the journey with you ash, your skill and match-winning contributions to Indian cricket are second to none and you will always and always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket,” Virat Kohli said in his post.

“Wish you nothing but the best in your life with your family and everything else that it unfolds for you. With massive respect and lots of love to you and your close ones. Thanks for everything, buddy,” he added.

When Virat Kohli was captain, Ravichandran Ashwin reached the highest level of Test cricket. In 55 Test matches, he took 293 wickets, including 21 five-wicket hauls.
