“You Are A True OG” – Rohit Sharma Pays Heartfelt Tribute To R Ashwin On Retirement Following BGT 2024-25

India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma shared a heartfelt message on social media for legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from international cricket after the third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

On Day 5 (December 18), during a rain break, Ashwin and Virat Kohli were seen in an emotional conversation, fueling retirement rumors. After the match, Ashwin joined Rohit in the post-game conference to officially announce his retirement.

Honoring Ashwin’s illustrious career, Rohit posted on Instagram, calling him a world cricket legend and expressing that the team would deeply miss the 38-year-old. He commented:

“We’ve played together for so many years and created so many memories which I’ll cherish forever. You’ve been a match-winner since match 1 & left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of upcoming young people with the classic Ashwin action.”

“You are a true OG & legend of Indian Cricket & World Cricket and this team will miss having you. Wishing the best to you & your lovely family for what lies ahead,” Sharma added.

“One of India’s greatest match-winners”- Rohit Sharma on Ravichandran Ashwin

In the post-game conference after the third Test, Rohit Sharma praised R Ashwin’s immense contributions to Indian cricket. He reflected on their years of playing together and described Ashwin as one of India’s greatest match-winners. Rohit remarked:

“I’ve known Ashwin since U-17 cricket when he was an opener. Years later, I heard about a Tamil Nadu bowler taking fifers, and it turned out to be him. Since 2010, we’ve had a long journey together. He’s one of India’s greatest match-winners, always stepping up in crises. His records speak for themselves,” said Rohit.

Ashwin concluded his career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker across formats, with 765 wickets (537 in Tests, 156 in ODIs, 72 in T20Is) from 287 matches, behind Anil Kumble’s 953 wickets in 401 games.
