India’s cricket team still has not announced its final team playing squad with the upcoming Champions Trophy schedule for the next few weeks. But there are speculations that Mohammed Shami will be back in the team after recovering from the knee problem. Shami recently performed well and took 11 wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and bagged five in three matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Mohammed Shami’s presence would be of immense value to India as he brings a lot of strength to the Indian bowling lineup. Had it been the Champions Trophy, Shami surely would have been a wealth of experience and his selection would have probably been the most decisive for India.
Mohammed Shami Discusses His Possible Champions Trophy Return
Ace Indian pacer Mohammed Shami said he used to glance at the Indian jersey every day during his rehabilitation period from injury. The 34-year-old last represented India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 24 scalps at a miserly average of below 11 in seven games.
Shami told Anand Bazaar Patrika [via Free Press Journal], “Everything is possible if the superior (God) wants. For a player, the game is everything. Without it, life feels incomplete. How can I enjoy life if I can’t pick up the ball? Life has been very difficult, that much I can say. Playing for the country is motivation enough. I used to look at the India jersey every day during my rehab.”
Mohammed Shami was struggling with a heel injury that saw him operated on his Achilles tendon in February last year. But then he had several complications, one of which saw him swell in the knee during the usual physiotherapy session.
