India cricketer Rinku Singh is said to have become engaged to Priya Saroj, a Lok Sabha MP from the Samajwadi Party. According to a news outlet, the two recently got engaged, though neither Rinku nor Priya have publicly confirmed the news yet.
Rinku, a key player in India’s T20I team, was part of the squad that won the World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s leadership last year. He is set to return to the field for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, which begins next week.
The 27-year-old has played two ODIs and 30 T20Is since his international debut in August 2023, accumulating a total of 562 runs across formats. Renowned for his finishing abilities, Rinku plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and helped the team win the title last season.
Meanwhile, Priya is a first-time MP, representing Uttar Pradesh’s Macchlishahr constituency. She secured a victory over BJP’s BP Saroj by more than 35,000 votes in the previous year’s elections.
Priya comes from a political family, with her father, Tufani Saroj, being a three-time MP and the current MLA from Kerakat. At 26, she studied law and originally aspired to become a judge, rather than pursuing a career in politics like her father.
“Though my father is a seasoned politician and has won Lok Sabha polls consistently between 1999 and 2014, I never thought of becoming a politician while growing up. After graduating in law, I started preparing for judgeship exams during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even when my ticket was announced, I was taking online classes for the exams,” Saroj told The Indian Express in an interview.

Rinku Singh was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad as a traveling reserve. Although he hasn’t played regularly for the national team, he has been selected for the T20I series against England, which begins on January 22.
Rinku had a modest IPL season, scoring 168 runs at an average of 18.67, even though his team claimed their third title. To date, he has featured in 30 T20Is for India, scoring 507 runs, and has played 2 ODIs, accumulating 55 runs. Known for his ability to perform under pressure, Rinku has frequently impressed with his explosive batting.
