India’s Champions Trophy squad will be unveiled on Saturday, January 18. Ajit Agarkar, chairman of the senior selection committee, will announce the 15-member team for the prestigious eight-team 50-over tournament at a press conference in Mumbai at 2 pm IST.
The Champions Trophy is slated to run from February 19 to March 9 across venues in Pakistan and the UAE. According to sources from ‘Sports Today’, a sister channel of ‘India Today’, the selection committee will hold a virtual meeting with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir on Friday evening.
The official selection meeting will begin at 12 pm IST on Saturday. The squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting February 3, will also be announced on the same day.
Key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul are expected to be included, while Jasprit Bumrah is also likely to make the squad, pending his fitness clearance.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back spasm during the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test and missed bowling in the last two days. Selectors want him to play a match before the Champions Trophy to assess his fitness. Bumrah has denied reports suggesting he needs bed rest.
Despite his exceptional performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, selectors are reportedly hesitant to include Karun Nair in the Champions Trophy squad.
Karun scored a remarkable 752 runs in seven matches, with five centuries, playing a key role in Vidarbha’s journey to the final. His explosive 44-ball 88 in the semi-final against Maharashtra highlighted his finishing skills.
India to Unveil Champions Trophy Squad on Jan 18; Ajit Agarkar to Hold Press Conference
The BCCI will announce India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on January 18, with Ajit Agarkar leading the press conference. The T20I squad for the England series is also likely to be revealed. The tournament features eight teams, with India set to face Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai, the venue for the final if India qualifies.
India’s group-stage fixtures include a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on February 23, followed by a game against New Zealand on March 2. The tournament begins on February 19 and concludes with the final on March 8.
India and Pakistan are the only teams yet to announce their squads for the Champions Trophy, beginning February 19. The BCCI’s delay is reportedly due to fitness concerns surrounding Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
