The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will expand seating capacity for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir, as reported by ‘The Times of India’.
Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in Mumbai’s squad has prompted the decision, with his presence expected to draw a larger crowd than usual. The match is scheduled to begin on Thursday, January 23, at the Sharad Pawar Academy Ground in BKC, where additional seating arrangements are being planned.
In addition to Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai squad features several other star Indian players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur. Their presence is expected to draw a significantly larger crowd than usual for a Ranji Trophy match.
According to ‘The Times of India’, a source from the Mumbai Cricket Association revealed that the venue, which typically accommodates around 100 spectators, will expand its capacity to approximately 500 seats for the upcoming game.
“Normally, there are seating arrangements for 100-odd spectators at BKC, but we will have around 500 seats for fans near the ground machinery there.”
”Fans will have to show their I-cards at the entry point. Considering the presence of the India stars, there will also be proper security arrangements at BKC too,” the source was quoted as saying.

After a disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series, Rohit Sharma is set to return to domestic cricket, representing Mumbai in their upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match. This marks his first Ranji Trophy appearance in a decade, with his last outing being in the 2015-16 season.
Rohit’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the Mumbai lineup, while he will also look to regain form with some valuable runs. Currently, Mumbai sit third in Group A with 22 points from five matches, having secured three victories.
Their opponents, Jammu & Kashmir, hold the second spot with 23 points from five games. The match will be crucial for both teams as they compete for a stronger position in the tournament.
