Virat Kohli’s long-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy is generating massive excitement in Delhi. The former Indian captain will play in the upcoming Ranji game against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, marking his first appearance in the tournament after 13 years.
Kohli last participated in the 2012 season, and his return has sparked a wave of enthusiasm among cricket fans. To accommodate the expected surge in spectators, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is making special arrangements, including increased security and expanded seating capacity.
DDCA’s Special Arrangements for Fans
The DDCA is preparing for a large turnout, with seating arrangements for up to 10,000 spectators. The North End and Old Club House will be opened to cater to the crowd, and additional seating may be arranged on the ground floor of the stadium.
In a rare move, DDCA has announced that no tickets will be issued for the match, offering fans the opportunity to watch Kohli’s comeback free of charge. This initiative reflects the high demand for the match and the association’s commitment to making the game accessible to many fans as possible.
Kohli’s Comeback and Domestic Cricket Participation
Kohli had initially planned to return to domestic cricket in Delhi’s match against Saurashtra in Rajkot, but he withdrew due to neck stiffness. However, he confirmed his availability for the match against Railways on January 30.
His decision to play in the Ranji Trophy follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mandate, which encourages all India regulars to participate in domestic cricket to maintain their eligibility for national selection. Kohli’s return is part of a broader trend, as other prominent Indian cricketers, including Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shubman Gill, have also rejoined domestic cricket this season.
