Chris Gayle in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League played arguably the best T20 knock of all time. Royal Challengers Bangalore were up against the Pune Warriors India at the Chinnaswamy stadium in front of a capacity crowd. Gayle, on that day, went absolute berserk as he activated his beast mode and scored 175 runs in IPL 2013.
The big Jamaican was at his best as he recorded the highest individual score by a batsman in T20 cricket. He struck 17 sixes in total in that innings and almost every maximum landed outside the stadium. Chris Gayle recently recalled his record-breaking innings while chatting with his Kings XI Punjab teammates KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.

I could have scored a double hundred – Gayle
Chris Gayle stated that after the rain interruption early on in the innings he told Ravi Rampaul that the pitch is an absolute belter to bat on. He initially thought of helping RCB reach a target of around 180 to put his team in a winning position. After play resumed, again it was all about the ‘Gayle Storm’ as he electrified the crowd in attendance at Chinnaswamy.
“I remember after facing the first couple of overs, rain interrupted the game. I went inside and Ravi Rampaul was there in the team at that time as well. And I said to him, ‘That wicket outside is a real belter. We need to get at least 170-180 to give ourselves a chance at winning the game.’ because the wicket was so good”.
“And then, eventually, I went back out after the rain interruption and picked up from where I left off. I was in that flow, that rhythm. Sometimes as a batsman you know that you cannot do anything wrong and that was one of the days. It was remarkable and so funny that I end up with 175 and I was saying that should be the team total”, Gayle said on the chat show Open Nets with India cricketers Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul.
Meanwhile, Chris Gayle still believes that he on that day could have scored 200 runs. His teammate AB de Villiers played a little cameo of 31 runs off just 8 balls that kept Gayle away from the strike in the end.
Gayle said, “I could have got 200 if ABD didn’t come in and steal the show as well”.
