[WATCH]- Haryana Bowler Castles Suryakumar Yadav With A Stunner In Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Quarterfinal

India’s T20I captain and Mumbai batter, Suryakumar Yadav, had his stumps shattered during the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 quarter-final against Haryana at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Saturday, February 8. The right-hander managed just nine runs off five balls before joining the top-order batters in the pavilion.

His dismissal came in the eighth over when Haryana’s right-arm seamer, Sumit Kumar, got one to jag back in, breaching Suryakumar’s defense and uprooting his middle stump. The seasoned batter was late in bringing his bat down, allowing the ball to sneak through.

Earlier in the innings, Kumar had already removed Akash Anand, making Suryakumar his second victim. With his departure, Mumbai slipped to 25/4.

Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane chose to bat first, but his team suffered an early setback when Anshul Kamboj struck on the very first ball, dismissing Ayush Mhatre. Kamboj continued his impact by removing Siddhesh Lad for a single-digit score.

Shivam Dube managed 28 before falling to Ajit Chahal, while Rahane himself was dismissed by Kamboj after scoring 31 off 58 balls. At that point, Mumbai had slumped to 94/6. However, contributions from Tanush Kotian, Shardul Thakur, and Shams Mulani have provided some stability, helping the team reach 164/7.

Suryakumar Yadav Endures Tough T20I Series Against England

Considered the top T20I batter of this era, the Mumbai-born cricketer struggled to deliver runs in the recent five-match series against England. Across five innings, he managed just 28 runs at an average of 9.60, with a highest score of 14 and two ducks. Despite his poor form, India, under his leadership, secured a 4-1 series victory.

The 34-year-old has played only one Test match, featuring against Australia in February 2023, but failed to make an impact and hasn’t been included in the XI since. In ODIs, his last appearance came in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia.
