Former India captain Virat Kohli was seen running without knee strapping on Saturday, February 8, as he prepares for his return in the second ODI of the three-match series against England. The match is set to be played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9.

The Delhi-born batter had missed the first ODI in Nagpur on February 6 due to swelling in his right knee. However, he has now fully recovered and is fit for the second ODI, having participated in Saturday’s practice session. You can watch the video here:

India’s batting coach, Shitanshu Kotak, also confirmed Virat Kohli’s participation in the second ODI during the pre-match press conference, as quoted by PTI:

“Virat Kohli is fit to play second ODI against England on Sunday.”

In the first ODI at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, India secured a victory against England. Batting first, England were dismissed for 248, with captain Jos Buttler leading the scoring with 52 runs.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Harshit Rana impressed with three wickets each. In reply, half-centuries from Shubman Gill (87), Shreyas Iyer (59), and Axar Patel (52) helped the hosts secure a four-wicket win, giving them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Virat Kohli needs only 94 more runs to reach the milestone of 14,000 ODI runs

Virat Kohli has had an outstanding ODI career, amassing 13,906 runs in 295 matches at an average of 58.18 and a strike rate of 93.54. He is now just 94 runs away from reaching the 14,000-run milestone in the format. The right-handed batter has also registered 72 half-centuries and 50 centuries.

Additionally, Kohli has an impressive ODI record against England, scoring 1,340 runs in 36 matches at an average of 41.87, with nine fifties and three centuries. With the 2025 Champions Trophy set to begin on February 19, Kohli will be eager to get valuable match practice in the remaining two ODIs.
