New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has provided an update on all-rounder Rachin Ravindra after he suffered a significant blow to the forehead during the tri-series opener against Pakistan on Saturday, February 8, at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
As per the board’s statement, Ravindra is recovering well but will remain under observation following Health Impact Assessment (HIA) protocols. The incident occurred in the 38th over of Pakistan’s innings when Khushdil Shah attempted a slog sweep off Michael Bracewell toward deep square leg.
While attempting a catch, Ravindra lost sight of the ball, which struck him directly on the forehead. Team support staff quickly attended to him, applying an ice pack to his injury as he appeared to be bleeding.

NZC’s statement, as cited by Cricbuzz, reads:
“He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well. He came through his first Health Impact Assessment well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes.”
The Black Caps face an injury concern with Lockie Ferguson doubtful for the tri-series due to a hamstring injury from ILT20 2025. Head coach Gary Stead stated that his availability for the tri-series and Champions Trophy 2025 is yet to be decided.
Rachin Ravindra Builds Key Partnership with Kane Williamson Against Pakistan
Earlier in the day, Ravindra, a key player in New Zealand’s limited-overs setup, played a quick 25 off 19 balls, hitting five boundaries and forming a 35-run partnership with Kane Williamson. His knock came after Shaheen Shah Afridi struck in the opening over to dismiss Will Young.
While Williamson (58) and Daryl Mitchell (81) registered crucial half-centuries, the standout performer for New Zealand was Glenn Phillips. He smashed an unbeaten 106 off 74 balls, powering the Kiwis to a strong total of 330/6 in 50 overs. Phillips also contributed with the ball, dismissing Fakhar Zaman at a key moment.
Captain Mitchell Santner and pacer Matt Henry led the bowling attack, taking three wickets each to secure a commanding 78-run victory. New Zealand will next face South Africa on Monday, while Pakistan will take on the Proteas on Wednesday.
