Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), owners of Mumbai Indians, has acquired a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, a London-based team in The Hundred. This deal includes both men’s and women’s teams. With T20 leagues expanding globally, several IPL franchises have been investing in overseas teams to strengthen scouting networks and recruit talent.
Mumbai Indians have been actively expanding their footprint, having previously acquired teams in the USA (MI New York), South Africa (MI Cape Town), and the UAE (MI Emirates). In an official statement released on February 10, Mumbai Indians confirmed their investment in Oval Invincibles, a Surrey-based team in The Hundred.
The men’s team are the reigning champions, having secured back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, while the women’s team previously won in 2021 and 2022. Despite RIL’s investment, Surrey will retain the majority ownership. Oli Slipper, chair of Surrey CCC stated:
“We said at the outset that we wanted the best partner to ensure that Surrey continue to lead the way in English cricket and in Mumbai Indians that is what we have got.”

MI Cape Town Clinches SA20 2025 Title
MI Cape Town, the South African affiliate of Mumbai Indians, emerged victorious in the latest edition of SA20. They topped the league table and secured a direct spot in the final after defeating Paarl Royals in Qualifier 1. In the title clash, they triumphed over Sunrisers Eastern Cape with a commanding 76-run victory to claim their first SA20 championship.
This victory marks the MI franchise’s 11th overall title. Their trophy cabinet includes five IPL titles, two Champions League T20 trophies, and championship wins in the USA, UAE, and the Women’s Premier League (WPL), in addition to this latest triumph.
