On Tuesday, February 11, a jubilant crowd rose to their feet to applaud Babar Azam at the newly renovated National Stadium in Karachi. The ceremony organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for reopening the stadium ahead of the Champions Trophy from February 19 at the venue was also a glittering affair.

Fans were invited free of charge, and they also got to enjoy performances by prominent Pakistani singers. During the ceremony, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi also took the opportunity to appreciate the construction workers for their key role in the renovation of the stadium.

The ceremony celebrated the return of cricket to the National Stadium after a long gap and the transformation of the once glorious building into a world-class facility for the players and audiences. As the Champions Trophy looms, that stadium reopening begins to write yet another exciting chapter for Pakistani cricket.

Babar Azam waited patiently for the chants to stop:

The Pakistan cricket team had a public audience to express their views on the modernized National Stadium before departing for the Champions Trophy. As soon as the crowd heard Babar Azam’s face, a few hundred fans erupted in cheers and chants of his name.

BZabar waited for some time, but the public show of affection and admiration never subdued. Finally, he said thank you and asked them to support the teams during their Champions Trophy campaign.

Pakistan face what is arguably the most important match of the ongoing ODI tri-series against South Africa at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 12. They are trying to recover from their opening loss to New Zealand at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium because New Zealand has already beaten South Africa earlier in the week to reach the final. Before the Champions Trophy kicks off, Pakistan will want to gain confidence and build momentum going into that event.
