Josh Inglis

Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis reached his first-ever ODI century in a thrilling manner, smashing a six during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Inglis played a commanding pull shot to the mid-wicket region and celebrated the milestone with Glenn Maxwell.

He arrived at the crease in the 20th over when Australia was struggling at 122/3, chasing a daunting target of 352. Facing England’s disciplined bowling attack, Inglis got off the mark with a boundary against Adil Rashid and quickly built momentum.

He brought up his half-century in just 41 deliveries, showcasing his aggressive intent. The right-hander reached his maiden ODI hundred in the 45th over off Jofra Archer’s slower delivery, completing the milestone in just 77 balls—the fastest century in Champions Trophy history. By the end of the over, Australia needed only 34 runs from 30 balls to secure victory.

Partnership with Alex Carey Secures Victory

Inglis’ crucial partnership of 146 runs with Alex Carey set a strong foundation for Australia’s record chase. Carey walked in at 136/4 when England had the upper hand, sensing an opportunity to take control. However, both wicketkeeper-batters paced their innings smartly, making full use of the dew factor to counter the English bowlers.

Carey contributed a well-compiled 69 off 63 balls before departing, while Glenn Maxwell’s explosive 32 off just 15 deliveries ensured Australia crossed the finish line with 15 balls to spare. The remarkable chase handed Australia a five-wicket win, further solidifying their dominance in the tournament.

England’s Strong Batting Display Falls Short

Earlier in the match, England’s opener Ben Duckett played a record-breaking knock, scoring 165 off 143 balls—the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history. Joe Root also provided valuable support with a well-crafted 68.

Despite England’s impressive total of 352, Australia’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Ben Dwarshuis (3/66 in 10 overs), kept them in the game. Ultimately, Inglis’ heroics, coupled with key contributions from Carey and Maxwell, ensured Australia scripted a memorable victory in one of the most thrilling encounters of the tournament.
